He’s a versatile safety who can cover the slot, play in the box or deep center. For the Redskins ideally he’d push for the starting safety role and I believe he would have a good shot of earning it. Hooker tested well at the Combine and he shows good instincts on tape. As a rookie he may need to be in a time-share role, but he should contribute on defense in addition to his ST duties.131: G BEN POWERS, OKLAHOMA-Powers is a three year starter for the Sooners who was 2nd and 1st team All-conference the past two seasons. Powers won’t wow you with size or athleticism, but he gets the most out of it. He plays with a mean streak and will get after opponents and play through the whistle. Powers is a high floor guy who should be able to compete for the starting LG job as a rookie, making him a solid pick-up late in the 4th round. 153: CB SAIVION SMITH, ALABAMA-Smith has the size, length and athletic ability to be a starting outside corner in the NFL. He left school early though and only has 12 starts in his Division 1 career. Overall he did a nice job this past season for the Crimson Tide, but there were some inconsistencies. Smith makes an intriguing Day 3 prospect as he has some upside to start, but is probably a couple years away. The Redskins can take him here and be a little patient in their approach. 173: C ROSS PIERSCHBACHER, ALABAMA-While I’m pretty sure the Redskins are required to draft two Alabama players each year, landing Pierschbacher is not just to fulfill obligations. He’s a high floor interior offensive line prospect capable of playing both guard and center. While he isn’t the biggest or strongest lineman, he is smart and a technician. At worst he’s a top notch back-up interior offensive lineman https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , but I wouldn’t rule out him pushing for a starting role down the road.206: TE TOMMY SWEENEY, BOSTON COLLEGE-Sweeney has been a solid receiving option for Boston College the past few years and can hold his own as a blocker. His ceiling is pretty limited, but he can find a role as a 3rd TE who can maybe develop into a number 2 TE.227: RB JAMES WILLIAMS, WASHINGTON STATE-Williams was one of the top receiving backs in college football last season and has potential as a 3rd down back at the next level. He has 202 catches and 1,437 yards over his career. While I think he likely would be a practice squad option as a rookie, he has some potential to keep around and perhaps replace Chris Thompson in 2020.253: LB DAKOTA ALLEN, TEXAS TECH-Allen has had an interesting journey to his college football career. He was dismissed from Texas Tech after burglary charges, but found his way back after showcasing himself at “Last Chance U”. While normally you have to question taking a player with baggage like this, it’s worth noting that after rejoining Texas Tech he was named team captain. Allen was also named 1st team Big 12 this past season and was the team’s leading defender. He lacks the athletic profile to project as an eventual starter, but he can earn a role as a special teamer and back-up.Overview:Not my favorite Day 3 as some of the options didn’t fall as I was hoping. Still I think both Hooker and Powers can push for starting roles even as rookies. Hooker should contribute and see plenty of work even if Montae Nicholson earns the starting job. Hooker is versatile enough that he will find a place on this defense. Powers isn’t as splashy as some other guard options in this class, but he gets the job done. Having an all-Oklahoma left side of the line should be a positive for this team. After Hooker and Powers, I think both Smith and Pierschbacher can be core back-ups and both have a little starting potential down the road. Smith is more a projection pick as he’s pretty inexperienced overall. Pierschbacher is a really high floor guy, who gives the team a solid safety net.As for the last three picks I really wasn’t thrilled with them. Sweeney and Williams both might need a year on the practice squad. Allen could push for a back-up role, but he also could have a tough time making the roster.What do you think? The Buffalo Bills have signed running back Senorise Perry and announced the trade of receiver Zay Jones to the Oakland Raiders for a 2021 fifth-round draft pick.Perry returns to Buffalo a little over a month since being released by the team after reaching an injury settlement. He hurt his quadriceps during the preseason.Perry has three seasons of NFL experience including the past two with Miami and was used mostly in special teams roles. He fills the spot left open a day after Buffalo reached an agreement to trade Jones to Oakland.Jones was the odd-man out after Buffalo promoted rookie Duke Williams off its practice squad on Saturday. Jones played only one snap in a 14-7 win at Tennessee on Sunday, while Williams took over his role as the No. 3 receiver and scored the decisive touchdown in the fourth quarter.Buffalo also released running back Byron Marshall from its practice squad.The moves were announced Tuesday while the Bills enter their bye week.
